Chronology of Pavlova

...the history of a famous ballet dancer

1882 -- Born in St. Petersburg on January 31st.

1892 -- Entered the Imperial Ballet School in ST. Petersburg. Early ballet teachers: Eugenia Sokolova, Christian Johannsen, Nicolas Legat and Paul Gerdt.

1898 -- Completes Ballet School.

1899 -- A debut performance at the Marinsky Theater. Pavlova is given a small part without ever being a member of the corps de ballet.

1905 -- Begins to study ballet under Enrico Cecchetti.

1907 -- First European tour for the Russian trained dancers. Dancers toured to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Riga.

1908 -- Toured with Adolph Bolm, Lubov Egorova, and Nicholas Legat to Prague, Leipzig and Vienna.

1909 -- Joins the first Diaghilev Paris tour and dances with Nijinsky in Le Pavilion d'Armide. In London, dances Le Cygne at a soiree for Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.

1910 -- Makes an American debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Performances include the ballet Coppelia and divertissements with the Metropolitan dance company.

1911 -- Dances with Nijinsky in Diaghilev's first London season. Roles include Les Sylphides, Giselle, Cleopatre and Pavilion d'Armide. Makes last appearance with Diaghilev's dance company.

1912 -- London becomes Pavlova's permanent home. Purchased Ivy House, originally the home of the famous English painter J. W. M. Turner.

1913 -- A Short visit in Russia. Tours Germany with a new dance company created in England.

1914 -- Danced in the United States and Canada, one of the first series of grand dance tours.

1915 -- Danced with Boston opera Company. Receive a payment of $8,500 per week from Charles B. Dillingham to dance in New York Hippodrome for six months.

1916 -- In Hollywood for Universal Pictures, plays the leading role in the film The Dumb Girl of Portici.

1917 -- Danced in Havana, poor audience attendance due to revolution in Cuba.

1918 -- Danced in Mexico and South America. For 25,000 people, Pavlova danced the Mexican National Dance at Plaza de Toros.

1920 -- In Paris, founded an Orphanage for Russian refugee children.

1922 -- Danced in the Far East and Japan.

1927 -- Danced in England, Italy and Germany.

1928 -- Final tour to South America.

1929 -- Danced in Java, India and Egypt.

1930 -- Last dance tour in England and final public appearance dancing Giselle.

1931 -- Died at Hague, Holland in January 23, 1931. Buried and cremated at Golders Green in London.
